Hope by CAMH is a free smartphone app that provides suicide prevention information, tools, and crisis resources to support and guide individuals when they are experiencing thoughts of suicide. One of the key features of this app is the ability for individuals to create a personalized suicide safety plan, which can be done in consultation with their healthcare professional, loved one, or someone who they have a trusting relationship with. The Hope by CAMH safety plan can be accessed at any time – especially if an individual is experiencing thoughts of suicide – and it can be updated as their situation changes.

Be Safe by mindyourmind is an evidence-informed safety planning and service navigation app developed in partnership with youth. The app is the product of a multi-sectoral network of stakeholders created to improve access to and coordination of mental health and addiction services for youth and families, consisting of the dedicated youth team, the London Service Collaborative, the CAMH Regional Implementation Team, and mindyourmind. Be Safe by mindyourmind now includes regional resources for every province and territory in Canada, and continues to strive to provide support to more local communities across Canada.

 Mindshift App – Anxiety and Fear (Canadian-BC)

Struggling with anxiety? Tired of missing out? There are things you can do to stop anxiety and fear from controlling your life. MindShift is an app designed to help teens and young adults cope with anxiety. It can help you change how you think about anxiety. Rather than trying to avoid anxiety, you can make an important shift and face it.  MindShift will help you learn how to relax, develop more helpful ways of thinking, and identify active steps that will help you take charge of your anxiety. This app includes strategies to deal with everyday anxiety, as well as specific tools to tackle: Making Sleep Count, Riding Out Intense Emotions, Test Anxiety, Perfectionism, Social Anxiety, Performance Anxiety, Worry, Panic, Conflict. BoosterBuddy – Improve Mental Health (Canadian - BC)

 BoosterBuddy is a free app designed to help teens and young adults improve their mental health. Manage your personal wellness journey and earn achievements as your sidekick guides you through a series of daily quests designed to establish and sustain positive habits. BoosterBuddy provides a choice of three companion characters, or buddies. The buddy falls asleep every day and the user has to interact with the app to wake up their buddy. When they do this they are also taking steps to manage their own wellness. Waking up their buddy includes checking-in with how they are feeling that day and completing three “quests”, or real-life activities, in order to wake up their buddy. Quests are tailored to match how the user it feeling. If they are struggling, the quest will be a coping skill aimed at what is bothering them the most: anxiety, depression, psychosis, drug or alcohol misuse or other problems. If they are feeling better, the quest will be a more challenging task: taking a walk, phoning a friend, eating something healthy or many others. All the quests aim to give users a boost to get started on healthy activities. Besides the daily jump-start, BoosterBuddy has other wellness management tools including: medication reminders, appointment and to-do list reminders, a crisis management plan, an extensive library of coping skills, and a calendar function for reviewing accomplishments and wellbeing over time.

 Virtual Hope Box is a multi-media coping skill app designed for individuals struggling with depression (particularly military service members). The four main features of Virtual Hope Box include sections for distraction, inspiration, relaxation, and coping skill options. The distraction techniques include games that require focus, like Sudoku and word puzzles. The relaxation techniques offer a variety of guided and self-controlled meditation exercises. The coping techniques offer suggestions for activities that reduce stress. The inspiration section offers brief quotes to improve mood and motivation. The app can be used in collaboration with a mental health provider through the “coping cards” feature, which can be programmed to address specific problem areas. The relaxation tools can also be used with a clinical professional or other meditation partner, if desired.

ACT Coach is designed with Veterans and Service Members in mind and incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy through activities focused on establishing psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility focuses on aligning mindfulness techniques with personal values and morals to help achieve what is described as the “Self-as-Experiencer,” or ability to center and focus on sensory or emotional experiences in a stable way. PTSD Coach is an app developed for service members (active or retired) who think they may be struggling with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Created jointly by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, PTSD Coach offers multiple features for addressing reactions to trauma. It provides educational information about PTSD, a checklist to help with diagnosis, skills for managing symptoms, and resources for obtaining support. PTSD Coach also let users track their symptoms over time.

T2 Mood Tracker is an app designed to help users track their emotions over time. It comes with six pre-installed areas: Anxiety, Depression, Well-Being, Head Injury, Post-Traumatic Stress, and Stress. Users can also add and customize additional scales. T2 Mood Tracker compiles the user’s ratings in each of these areas and creates a graph that can be printed or shared directly with a treatment provider. There is also space to note important or meaningful events during the day. This is intended to help users and their providers see patterns and identify triggers in the user’s daily life.
